After the breakout of World War 1, The Foundry was used to store cotton waste required for war explosives by Nobel's Explosives Company. However a large fire broke out, destroying the mill resulting in its closure.
1918 - 1933
The Foundry was redesigned for the design and building of machinery to be used in the Lancashire Cotton spinning and textile weaving industry.
1934 - 1939
The Foundry was modified to build brick making machinery used to help the housing boom prior to the breakout of World War 2.
1939 - 1945
The Foundry was requisitioned for the Auxilary Fire Service which was often called into action throughout the war due to air raids across the Greater Manchester area.
1945 - 1975
The Foundry sat empty after the end of World War 2 until a section of the Foundry was used as a slipper making factory.
1975 - 2008
The Foundry was taken over by Edlam Elekem, processors of engineering polymers for the chemical, foodstuffs and oil industries. Edlam Elekem built a modern works to the rear of the site, resulting in the remaining buildings being sold for development.
Throughout the Foundrys history, it has always been a home for new businesses, with several redevelopments, additions and changes of ownership. However it was the new owners that would begin to shape the future of the Foundry.
2008 - Present
The Foundry was bought by Martin Rawstron and Andrew Morgan for redevelopment.
Complete renovation of the site was required to create ‘Prinny Mill Business Centre’ and the buildings were converted to provide;

The Business Centre started life in 1843 as a brass foundry called 'The Union Foundry', engineering steam engines as well as brass and iron boilers, with millwrights using these products to service some of the largest textile mills during the Industrial Revolution. The Foundry continued production of steam engines and boilers until the early 1900's, making the mill an important feature of the Rossendale Valley's industrial past.
